Yepsen: Huckabee shows he belongs in top tier
There were three clear winners in Wednesday's debate among the Republican presidential candidates: John McCain, Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson. All of them helped their candidacies, and they should move up in the polls as a result.

Poll: Tight Race Among Democrats in Iowa
A CBS/New York Times poll of 1,273 likely Iowa voters conducted Nov. 2-11 showed the frontrunners in both parties feeling heat from their competitors. In the GOP race, the poll showed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee closing in on leader Mitt Romney. Huckabee earned 21 percent while Romney earned 27 percent. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is leading in most national polls, clocked in at 15 percent. In the Democratic race, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards were shown in a near tie — with 22 and 23 percent respectively — and catching up to Hillary Clinton, who polled at 25 percent.

New poll: Huckabee edges Romney in Iowa
Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has edged ahead of Mitt Romney in Iowa, according to a poll published today by Rasmussen Reports, a private public opinion research company. Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor, received support from 28 percent of likely Republican caucusgoers, compared to Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, who had 25 percent. The poll's margin of sampling error was 3.5 percentage points.

Among Presidential Hopefuls, McCain Has Lowest Level of Core Opposition
With less than two months to go until the Iowa caucuses kick off the actual voting in Election 2008, Arizona Senator John McCain finds himself with the smallest level of core opposition among all the major Presidential candidates from both parties. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 33% say they will definitely vote against McCain if he is on the ballot in November 2008. That's down from 39% a month ago and a peak of 42% in June. These results come on top of a week of good polling news for the man from Arizona.
